Instructions

There are general instructions that should be helpful here:
https://www.hamiltrowebsitedesign.com/basic-wordpress/
These instructions will add some basics and also cover the SEO options.

But here are some specific instructions for your website:

The HOME PAGE is constructed like this:

1. Banner Image Carousel

There is an array of images at the top of the page that are coming from a gallery in the HOME page. You can change these when you have new work you want to feature at the top of the page:

https://www.tomclevelandprojects.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=713&action=edit

The galleries in the PAGES are edited slightly differently to those in the CUSTOM POSTS. In pages (like the home page), although you can remove an image just by clicking on one image and deleting it from the gallery, to add new images to the gallery you need to click the “select gallery” icon above the gallery (looks like a stack of images) and then scroll down to find the option to upload new images to the gallery. adding a new image will give you access to the full gallery and you can change the order once you have all the images there that you want.

2. About

When you are logged in, there is an “Edit” link below the text to take you to the page to edit either the text or image here:

https://www.tomclevelandprojects.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=769&action=edit

(it is the “About” page in “Pages”)

For this section, edit the EXCERPT for the homepage, not the main content.

3. Apology To Loneliness

When you are logged in, there is an “Edit” link below this text to take you to the page to edit either the text or image here (it is the main “Apology To Loneliness” page in “Pages”).

Or you can go directly here:

https://www.tomclevelandprojects.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=719&action=edit

For this section, edit the main content field for the homepage.

4. Letters To Hawk

When you are logged in, there is an “Edit” link below this text to take you to the page to edit either the text or image here (it is the main “Letters To Hawk” page in “Pages”).

Or you can go directly here:

https://www.tomclevelandprojects.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=727&action=edit

For this section, edit the EXCERPT for the homepage, not the main content.

5. Drawings in Series

When you are logged in, there is an “Edit” link below this text to take you to the page to edit either the text or image here (it is the main “Drawings in Series” page in “Pages”).

Or you can go directly here:

https://www.tomclevelandprojects.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=729&action=edit

For this section, edit the EXCERPT for the homepage, not the main content.

6. Sculpture

When you are logged in, there is an “Edit” link below this text to take you to the page to edit the text (only) here (it is the main “Sculpture” page in “Pages”).

Or you can go directly here:

https://www.tomclevelandprojects.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=787&action=edit

For this section, edit the main content field for the homepage.

The four images here are hard-coded into the template. I (RHM) will need to change this when/if you want to change these images but I’m leaving them as they are for now.

PROJECTS/SCULPTURE

Each NEW sculpture needs:

1. a featured image for the sculptures index page

2. a gallery of images of different views in the main content

3. a sculpture category to be checked.

If you click on a gallery to put it into edit mode (click the pencil icon that appears when you click once among the images), you’ll see that you can edit the captions of each image within the gallery (> “update gallery”).

NB: Do NOT add images one by one here.

Please refer to an existing sculpture page that is displaying properly to check what the edit-page should look like, eg:

https://www.tomclevelandprojects.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=4497&action=edit

To create a NEW SCULPTURE CATEGORY, go to sculpture categories and Add a new category there.

You will need to add an image to represent the category for the index page. You’ll see the “Add media” button. Once you’ve added ONE image there (not the gallery), be sure to click the “Text” tab on that window and remove the caption tags that will have appeared before and after the image tag.

All you want to see there is something like this:

<img class=”size-medium wp-image-698″ src=”https://www.tomclevelandprojects.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Nelson_20210413_0060-500×750.jpg” alt=”Lost Wax Sculptures” />. whatever is before or after that image tag can be deleted.

Once you have created a new category, you will see a “0” over to the right, indicating that there are no sculpture posts in that category (yet). To create the sculpture posts in the new category, go to “Sculptures” in the sidebar and create one post for each sculpture, adding a GALLERY of images in the main content field (not single images by themselves).

We will need to create a new page template in the code for the new category before the new category-page will display properly but then, as long as the name of the page and the name of the new category are the same, the page will display the new work.

EDITING a sculpture

If you are editing existing content in the sculpture section, use the “Edit” links that display on the public pages when you are logged in.

You can also find the records via the Sculpture link in the dashboard sidebar or the sculpture categories link under that (and then click the little number-link to access the list of sculptures within a category).

PROJECTS/APOLOGY TO LONELINESS

You can edit the existing texts using the “Edit” links

You can edit the individual series via the “Edit” links.

You can create new series by creating a new ATL series custom post and adding a featured image and a gallery of images in the main content (much like sculptures, but without the need for a category).

Refer to an existing one if you need to see how a new series should be constructed, eg:

https://www.tomclevelandprojects.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=631&action=edit

PROJECTS/LETTERS TO HAWK

You probably won’t be adding or changing anything in this section but if you want to edit anything, use the “Edit” links where you find them on the public pages.

PROJECTS/DRAWINGS IN SERIES

Unlike the other project sections, every single drawing gets a separate record and the series are set by categories.

I’m working on how best to add edit links to enable you to go from the public site directly to a record (or series) from the public website. It may be that you’ll need to find works by their categories (despite each drawing having it’s own record, each series is displayed on one page, as if it is in a gallery—we set it up like this in case we need to reproduce the random functionality we had on the old site).

[   ] Pending possible Murugan solution as I write this…

For now, please use the drawing categories lists.

To add new drawings to an existing series, create a “New Drawing” and add the image as featured image and select the right category.

To add a NEW DRAWING SERIES, go to Drawing Categories and add a new category.

Follow the same steps as you do for adding a new sculpture category (above), taking care to remove the image caption from the category-image.

Adding Poems to pieces:

1.
Upload pdf of poem to the media library.

2.
Click the pdf thumbnail and copy the pdf’s file URL. It will look something like this:
https://www.tomclevelandprojects.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/[name].pdf
Then:

1.
Below the gallery in the project content window paste text like this:
View poem »

2.
Click the link icons

Adding meta data below carousels:

1.
If the meta-data (height, etc) has already been added to the first image in a carousel, cut it from there (CMD + X) and remove the spare comma. Save the gallery.

2.
Move cursor to the right of the gallery (you can use “>” arrow on keyboard to move it there if that’s easier) and hit return.

3.
Paste the text you cut from the image caption (or type new meta data) and use the “center” icon to center the text. Save.
